Community Living Support Services
Support staff for independent living
The goal of the Community Living Support (CLS) program is to offer the support services needed for individuals to live as independently as possible. In this program, assistance is provided according to individual needs, to assist individuals with community access, safety and personal skill development.
Eligible individuals are adults with developmental disabilities and in some cases, mental illness.
This assistance is provided in a person’s own home, family home or shared apartment or other living arrangement. MRO can offer assistance in locating appropriate apartments or other living arrangements upon service
Under the CLS program, living expenses such as rent, food, and utilities, are the responsibility of the participant. Disability benefits through SSI or Social Security are the primary source of funds for these living costs.
CLS services can be used to assist consumers with:
- Shopping
- Food Preparation
- Developing household skills
- Manage personal finances
- Arrange medical services
- Attend community activities, church or other interests
A “Person Centered Plan” is established for each individual, which outlines their service goals and interests. This plan is designed around the interests of the individual with input from their family and friends as requested.
Services are based on individual health and safety needs so they may range from a few hours per week to 24 hours daily.
CLS services can include transportation assistance for shopping and community activities. When included in the service plan, MRO has vehicles available or we can assist with using public transportation.
All services are coordinated through the Community Mental Health Agency in each county and to be eligible, individuals must meet the admission requirements for those agencies.
